Hong Kong : Purrfect spot for tea

There’s something about Hong Kong – its sights, smells and most of all the buzz and energy in the air – that keeps drawing me back in.  And no matter how many times I return, there’s always something new to discover.  Like this cat cafe tucked away in busy Causeway Bay that we visited earlier this year.

Ah Meow Cat Cafe is located in a nondescript residential apartment block.  As we squeezed into the old-style lift, complete with wooden doors that we had to push open ourselves, we wondered if we had arrived at the right place.  And then we saw the cutest sign outside the cafe.

Step into this small laid-back space, and you quickly forget the hustle and bustle of the streets of Causeway Bay below.  The cafe has about 15 cats who hardly bat a sleepy eyelid at the bunch of humans who are all oohing and aahing over how cute they are, eagerly snapping away with their iPhones and cameras and vying to get their attention.

A grey little fella with the softest fur saunters lazily up to us, inspecting our shopping bags and walks over our table for a round of greetings.  By this time, I am completely enamored by the charms of our new feline friends, and I want to bring ALL OF THEM home!

Ah Meow is a great place to spend an idyllic afternoon and watch the world go by as you sip longan tea.

Of course, the cats will probably tell you that nothing beats a nap in the sun.

And before you tear yourself away from this little sanctuary, kitty reminds you to pay the bill 🙂
