Respite

After being blanketed in haze for days, the sight of clear skies was enough to send me happily skipping out of our door for an evening walk at a nearby reservoir.  We watched children try to skip stones, families patiently fishing in peaceful waters and swallows soaring in the sky.  The windows in our apartment are now open, after days of being shut tight to keep out the acrid smoke, and there is a light breeze blowing through the rooms.  Instead of running indoors for shelter from the choking smog, we walked to a nearby cafe for a yummy organic salad.  Never mind that we’re likely to continue to suffer from the haze in the next few days, and maybe even weeks.  Today, I’m celebrating the whiff of fresh air that came our way.
