WordPress Daily Prompt: What’s your ideal Saturday morning? Are you doing those things this morning? Why not?
Saturdays are usually a crazy rush for us with family commitments and errands packed back to back. But sometimes, just before the madness begins, there is a golden pocket of time that we carve out just for ourselves. And this is when we head out to check out new cafes for a cuppa and just hang out. The past few weeks have been busy, busy but thankfully, we still managed to find some time for cafe hopping. And that precious one hour has been a god-send in helping me recharge for the new week ahead.
We found ourselves at Chye Seng Huat on a cold, rainy Saturday morning. Situated along a row of old shophouses in the Jalan Besar area, Chye Seng Huat looks just like any old hardware shop with its retro metal grills and old-fashioned wooden signboard. But go through the side entrance, and you’ll find yourself in a gorgeously designed coffee haven – perfect for chilling out. This indie coffee joint is from the Papa Palheta folks who I blogged about much earlier. The food at Chye Seng Huat is limited and nothing to shout about but we all know that those who head down here are really after the coffee. And they do not disappoint. The brew was excellent, the atmosphere warm and inviting, and as I settled down surrounded by the aromatic smell of coffee beans, the stresses of the week melted away. What a fabulous way to spend a Saturday morning.

We stumbled on Soho Coffee when I was desperately looking for a bathroom along Armenian Street one day. And the minute I spied this charming little cafe, I just had to go back. What attracted me was that the cafe was just oozing with this cozy, laid back vibe. Tucked away on a quiet street, it felt different. In fact, the cafe looked like it could have been taken right off the streets of Melbourne or Perth. So guess where we found ourselves on a rainy Saturday. Needless to say, I have fallen in love with this little cafe. With a small in-house roaster, their beans are freshly roasted daily and the barista makes each cup with care and attention. No wonder they serve an excellent cuppa. I spent a lovely hour just chilling out with my iPad as raindrops fell softly against the window pane. Definitely a place I’ll be visiting often on my Saturday mornings.
