Happy campers

Instead of the usual hotels, we decided to try a service apartment in KL this time.  The Ascott Kuala Lumpur was a great choice although I must confess I arrived with a little trepidation.  Reviews from fellow travellers were pretty good when we booked our room but when I went back into Tripadvisor the day before our trip, I saw a whole slew of recent bad feedback *yikes*  Thankfully, my worries were unfounded.

The Ascott is centrally located – a 5-minute walk to the Petronas Towers, KLCC and Suria Mall, and a 10-minute walk to Pavillion Mall and the Bukit Bintang shopping strip.  The apartments are not new but we found them spacious and reasonably well-maintained, and service was warm and friendly throughout our stay.

The apartment was ideal for a family trip.  It gave the father-in-law plenty of living room space to rest and the mom-in-law kitchen space to potter around in – whether it was to cut up fruits for everyone or to make a pot of chinese tea.  In fact, she even managed to steam a couple of buns just before we left for the airport!  For us, we rested easy knowing that we were just there if they needed anything.  Plus we all had lots of space to hang out together.  Rates were reasonable at RM600/day for a 2-bedroom apartment (comes with 2 bathrooms – very important) with breakfast.  Oooh, and they use L’Occitane toiletries for the bathrooms which I thought was a nice touch.  Recommended for large groups or families.
