Concrete fun

I can’t remember the last playground I’ve been to that actually has sand.  In the 70s and 80s, all playgrounds had sand.  I remember being able to bring cups and buckets down to the playground and build sandcastles, and having my falls cushioned by the grainy sand.  The Hubs recalled how he buried a toy car into the sand and never managed to recover it after!  It was all part of growing up.  These days, playgrounds are made of plastic and lined with rubbery foam.  I’ve heard of kids who have never played in a sand pit.  It’s a little sad.  So it’s nice to know that old fashioned playgrounds with the mosaic dragon still exist in little nooks in Singapore.  Just like this one in Toa Payoh.  Wonder how long before it too will make way for the new…
