The highlight of our Langkawi trip was the Pulau Payar Marine Park. It’s about 1 hour away from Langkawi by boat. We booked with Langkawi Coral as they are the only company with a large floating platform moored off Pulau Payar. For those who don’t snorkel or swim, the floating platform has a small underwater observation chamber so you get to see the marine life without getting wet. There are also glass-bottom boat rides out to the coral gardens every 10-minutes. The floating platform is great if you want to just catch your breath from all that snorkeling as you can sit on the wading deck and have the fishes swim right up to you. But be warned, I got bitten by a very enthusiastic fish who confused my fleshy bits for food. The Pulau Payar Marine Park is worth the day trip as the variety of marine life and colourful soft corals is amazing. The park isn’t very big but the variety was almost as good as what we saw at the Maldives. We spotted the barracuda, lion fish, grouper, sea urchins, parrot fishes, titan trigger fishes and even nemo! The RM240 package includes a hot buffet lunch, return shuttle service to your hotel and a shark feeding session by the beach.
